History of Family Worship Church, P.O. Box 141, Zumbrota, Minnesota
The church was formed in 1997 as an outreach ministry by performing bible studies and prayer meetings in our home, at the Zumbrota library for a time and then at the high school on Wednesday evenings. We obtained legal counsel from Rockne Law to set up the non-profit 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and register the church with the State of Minnesota. The church accounting system was set up with the help of Zimmerman Accounting. The church purchased Servant PC, a church administration and accounting system for running the business. The church web site www.fwc1.org was designed and implemented in 2005.
Although the church is small God has shown His grace many times during its existence. First, a former church redesigned the west side of Jimmy’s Pizza building into a church sanctuary and then went out of existence. Family Worship Church rented the facility and has been located in that building from 2008 through December 31, 2019. Due to an increase in building rent, the church has terminated its lease at 81 West 5th Street in Zumbrota. We are now meeting in our private homes, mainly in Wanamingo. Also, Family Worship Church has obtained permission to use a room at a church in Wanamingo on Saturday evenings as needed.
In 2010, a business donated more than 40 chairs for the sanctuary. In 2012, a family received a statement that their large medical bill was paid in full by a medical organization. In 2013, the church members prayed the prayer of agreement that the daughter would call her mother who had not been heard from for almost five years. That prayer request was fulfilled the very same week. In 2014, a church from Rochester made a financial contribution that helped our church to pay all the expenses for that year. Only the Lord knew about this and caused it to happen.
The church services are held Sunday morning at 9:30 AM.
The pastor, Art Olson, received his training for ministry from several organizations throughout the years. He grew up in Coon Valley, Wisconsin where he was a member of the Upper Coon Valley Norwegian Lutheran church. He was baptized and confirmed at that church. After moving to Minnesota in 1974, He taught Sunday school classes at Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Rochester from 1974 to 1976 and at Lands Lutheran church from 1977 to 1983. He joined the Gideons in 1979 and received training to perform speaker assignments in the churches in the Goodhue County area for many years.
Art completed several bible school training programs and was ordained by Pastor Bob Yandian at Grace Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
• Rhema Ministerial Association Three Year Correspondence School – completed in 1989
• Word of Faith Satellite Bible School – completed the first year program in 1992
• Calvary Cathedral Bible School – completed 2nd year of the Word of Faith School in 1994
• Art and Beverly attended The School of the Local Church in Tulsa, OK from 2000 to 2001
Art and his wife, Beverly, continue to perform weekly ministry outreach services at four nursing homes. Beverly sings solos and Art teaches messages from the scriptures and conducts the prayers. For many residents, this is their favorite activity and they look forward to hearing about God’s plan for their lives. Especially, that there is much more to look forward to than in this age because it says in Ephesians 2:7, “That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
